The Heresy Hunt.
The Auckland Presbytery have carried a resolution that the Rev. Mi Neil acted illegally in removing the names of four gentlemen from the committee of the Thames church, the circumstances in connection with which we recorded some few days ago. In his defence the rev. gentleman said :— I have tried to state the case without prejudice, and with perfect justice, for I know that justice will do no wrong either to those who oppose me or to the congregation, whose united will I here represent. We are not a divided congregation, we never were more united and determined, as last annual meeting and statistics show, though a dozen or so have left us. We are stronger than ever. There are but tew Ministers in the church now who were in it when I came to New Zealand ; during that time until this " Heresy Hunt " started I have attended meetings of the Presbytery as often as I could, sometimes at expense and inconvenience, nor have I w ronged any of you , in word or act during those years. And yet you seem determined to suspend me,— if you possibly could at this this very evening, and turn me out of the Presbyterian Church, for " suspension " in my case will mean that. You can do so still if you please. You may sow dragons' teeth and find a harvest of armed men.
