There has been no further obstruction on the part of the Natives respecting the State farm at Levin, and all the police sent up on Saturday morning, with the exception of Inspector Pendor and two constables, have returned to Wellington. Lyttleton, Jannarv 27. On the arrival of the barque Grass* mere from Newcastle this morning, two young men named Michael Russell and Win. Seryille wero arrested on a warrant from Newcastle, charged with maliciously wounding W. Coleman, at Sydney, on January Ist. The accused bad stowed awaj on the barque at Newcastle, acd when arrested admitted their indentitv. Ikvrrcabgill, January 28. Last night Mr Collie, landlord of the Criterion Hotel, was stabbed in two places by a man named Duncan Stewart, whom he was ejecting from the house for using bad language. The wounds bled freely, but are not dangerous. Stewart, who comes from the country, has been in a lanatic asylum. Auckland. January 28 The birthday of the German Emperor was celebrated with great eclat to-day on the German warslup Bussard. The French flagship Duguay Trouin was also ablaze with bunting. The Bank of New Zealand half-yearly meeting will be held on February 7th, when the Directors will declare an interim dividend of five per cent for the half-year, payable about February 10th. GiSBORNE. This Day. A boy named William Heapley, aged 13, was accidentally drowned when bathing on Saturday. Donedin, January 28. i Mr Thomas Wright, manager of the t Hawkesbury Agricultural College, was deputed by the New South Wales Government, on his recent visit, to purchase two Ayrshire cows of the best milking strains, with the view of making dairying a special feature of the college work. Mr Murray has purchased from Messrs A. and J. McFarlane, of Ayrshire Park, the cows Beauty II and Lill n, which were taken by Mr Murray by the Wairarapa.
