Lyons Operatic Company.

On the subject of the performances of the above company which will appear in the Assembly Rooms on Thursday and Friday, next a contemporary says : — A fairly-large audience greeted the appearance of the a*bove company in the Town Hall, on Saturday evening, when a burlesque entitled " The Isle of Beauty," or the "Pretty Persians," was enacted. The piece throughout is of a witty character, and the vivacious manner in which the various parts were portrayed contributed largely to its successful representation. As Prince Nicipici, Miss Jessie Leon created a very favorable impression, her acting and singing earning for her the hearty plaudits of the audience. Her efforts were well seconded by Prince Sweetie Petti (Miss Addie Towers), and also met with appreciation. The comic clement of the piece was supplied by " King Cactus, of Persia " {Mr Percy Clifton), who kept the audience in roars of laughter. His singing of a comic medley, "Pa and Ma," and " Anniebody's Rooney " afforded him additional scope for showing his versatility to good advantage, his character vocalisation being exceedingly good, and his by-play irresistibly funny. Mr Joe Stark was also successful in his impersonation of the Grand Vizier, and the other characters were well filled. Miss Violet Bertram's powerful voice was heard to advantage in " The Magic of Music," and " Daisy Bell " was well rendered by Miss Addie Towers. The sensation of the evening was, however, the rainbow serpentine^ dance "by*-.Mig» Blanche Younsj, whose graceful evo-*^ --. lutions met with the entire appreciation of those present.
