EXECUTION OF MRS KNORR. " INTERESTING " DETAILS. [As stated by a cable in our last night's issue, Mrs Knorr was executed yesterday."] (per press association). Melbourne, January Id. The execution took place in the presence of the sheriff and fifteen witnesses. At five minutes to ten the convict was joined by Chaplains Scott and Whitton, Mrs Henderson the matron, and Miss Bryerson the warder, singing fhe hymns "Abide with me," and " Safe in the arms of Jesus" MrsKnorr walked firmly on to the drop and stood without a quiver while the rope was adjusted. Before the bolt was drawn she said : "I do not fear what man can do unto me for I have peace— perfect peace." Death was instantaneous, no hitch of any kind occurring. The woman's confession is not yet available, but she has admitted two murders at least. She has also written to Mr Patterson, the Premier, a letter in reference to babyfarming legislation. Latrr. Mrs Knorr was the first woman executed in Melbourne since 1865. She was dressed in the ordinary prison dress, with her hair drawn back but not cut. Her step towards the scaffold was very firm, but in order ... to guard against a breakdown, the medical officer of the gaol walked close behind her, and tapped her on the shoulder to encourage her. Her confession is not yet published.
