(PKR PRESB ASSOCIATION. ~) London. January 15. Mr Gladstone has gone to Biarritz, a. French watering place. The son of a well-known Irish 'squire has heeu arrested in Paris on a charge of bigamy. He is said to have six wives. The arrest has caused a great sensation. The Daily News says the Government has decided to build eight new battle ships in addition to the annual ship building programme, and also to largely increase the number of cruisers. M. William Henry Waddingtou, the well-known French statesman and diplomatist, formerly ambassador for France in London, is dead, aged 68 years. [M. Waddington was the son of a rich Englishman who established large cotton works in France, and who became a naturalised Frenchman. The deceased statesman was educated in England and France, and has had a distinguished career.] Sir W. V. Harcourt has refused to consider the question of the payment of members during the present Parliament. Lord Kiinberley, who was seriously ill is better. Mr Joseph Thorley's cattle food stores at Thornhill Bridge, Caledonian road, London, have been burnt to the ground. The damage is estimated at .£70,000. Ottawa, January 15. Severe fightiug has taken place between the Mussulmans and the Protestants in Uganda, the latter being victorious. Territory of the Mussulmans has been assigned to the Protestants and Catholics. Berlin, Janunry 14. Her Von Bootticher, Minister of the Interior, speaking in the Reichstag, said he thanked God that owing to the wisdom of the Kaiser there was no fear of war in the near future.
