Manawatu Road Board.

_ « The usual fortnightly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present — Wardens Knight (in the chair), Stevens, Stubbs, and Luxford. The following correspondence was dealt with : — From Manawatu County Council asking if the Board had arrived at a decision as to the payment of part of the expenses of the Campbelltown bridge enquiry, amounting to £32 15s 2d. The writer stated that the late ' chairman of the Board had promised to see that it was paid. From Mr J. H. Cooksley, requesting the Board to spend deferred thirds in forming and metalling three chains of Cookley's road, commencing at its junction with the Bunnythorpe road. He would undertake to form the road 16 feet wide, and metal same for £2 10s per chain. From Mr J. Carmody, asking for an extension of time in which to complete the contract for metalling the Bunnythorpe - Kairanga road. He stated that Mr Graut had not allowed him to go on with the contract when he first signed for it, because of the wet weather. It was resolved, on the- motion of Warden Htubbs, seconded by Warden. Stevens, to offer the Manchester County Council without prejudice, one half of the cost claimed in connection with the Carapbelltown bridge enquiry. It was resolved to grant Mr Carmody an extension of one month in which to finish hi 3 contract on the Bunnythorpe-Kairanga road, provided he commences the work at once. Thirteen tenders were received in connection with the various works required for Milson's line. The following were accepted conditionally on the loan money being received : — Construction of bridges, A. H. Ihle, £155 ; formation, etc., W. Allen and Co., £93 ; metalling, J. O'Connor, £214 13s.— Standard.
