The Feilding Star. Published Daily. TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1894. N.Z.L. & M. COMPANY.
By a Wellington telegram which we published yesterday we were informed that there are 350 shareholders in the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company resident in New Zealand, holding in all 52,422 shares which, at £5 10s each, will represent £288,321 to be paid within eighteen months. We accept these figures as accurate, because we believe them to have been supplied by the Head Office of the Company in New Zealand. Although this sudden demand on them was not unexpected, yet we fear that many of the shaieholders will be quite unable to meet it within the time specified. The one rede3ming feature iv the matter is that a number of the outstanding liabilities of the Company will now be paid, and the circumstances of those who have been awaiting that event will thus be improved in some degree. That, however, will be but a poor consolation to those unfortunates who have to suffer the lose.
