Pleasants opened witl the Ruy Lopez, Cleland adopting tb« Berlin defence. The draw was on tht thirty-fourth move. Brown v. Borton— Tliis game was drawn at the forty-fourth move. Edwards v. Mellor— Mellor resigned at the forty-sixth move. Smith v. Mouat - Smith made a weak move early and lost a piece, resigning at the fifty-eight move. Barnes v. Hookham — Barnes defeated Hookham after a game lasting over si_ hours, and one of the best so far seen. Brown is still leading, with Cleland second (after taking his bye) and Hookham third.
