WOODVILLE, Thts Day. At the Jockey Club's Summer Meeting yesterday 1500 were present, and nearly "i'3ooo were put through the machine. Results : — Stewards' Handicap- Mairua, 1 ; Freewill, 2 ; Huia, 3, Dividend, £1 19s. Ventriloquist had a walk-over for the Maiden Hurdles. Maiden Plate— Behno, 1 ; Silver, 2 ; Dagworth, 3. Dividend, .421 9s. Handicap Hurdles — Spraydon, 1 ; Lord John, 2 ; Dorothy, 3. Dividend £1 12s. J.C. Handicap — Silent Friend, 1 ; Lady Isabel, 2 ; Trickery, 3. Dividend £5 9s. Electric Handicap — Marama, 1 ; Samoa, 2 ; Revenge and Oarsmaid, 3. Dividend .£3 4s. High weight — Pftt, 1; Kauri Gum, 2; Waiwanmi, 3. Dividend .4*28 7s. Flying — Lady Isabel, 1; Mairua, 2; Revenge, 3. Dividend £3 2s. A protest was lodged against Silent Friend on the ground that Mr Buick, the owner, had not taken out a trainer's license although he trained his own horses on a private course, and had a gentleman rider'n certificate. The Stewards decided that as the Wellington and Hawkes Bay Metropolitan Clubs interpreted the rule differently, to refer the point to the Hawkes Bay Club for decision.
