A protest was lodged against Silent Friend on the ground that Mr Buick, the owner, had not taken out a trainer's license although he trained his own horses on a private course, and had a gentleman rider'n certificate. The Stewards decided that as the Wellington and Hawkes Bay Metropolitan Clubs interpreted the rule differently, to refer the point to the Hawkes Bay Club for decision.
