The manager in Auckland has received a cablegram from London to the effect that the statutory meeting will be held on January 9th. In addition to the pleasing cables wo published yesterday we take the following from the Post :— •• We are able to make a gratifying announcement that the managers of the various branches of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. havo been directed to hold themselves in readiness to pay out the balances due to clients on account of consignments. Wo understand that the amount which the company has been obliged to withhold is more than a quarter of a million sterling. The distribution of such a large sum at this season of the year will be very op■nnrt.mifi."
