Concert at Apiti.
A concert and coffee supper . was given in the Apiti School on Thursday evening, December 21st, in aid of the school fund. The programme, a lengthy one, was carried out entirely by the school children, and the excellent manner in which the different pieces were rendered ' reflects great credit on Miss Prendergast, the teacher, who has for some weeks past taken considerable trouble in coaching the scholars. The schoolroom was filled to excess, and the audience showed their appreciation of the efforts of the children by the frequeut applause bestowed. A Feilding resident who was present at the concert, says it was astonishing to see little mites of children going through their recitations and songs without a hitch ; and the whole programme, consisting of thirtytwo i' ems, composed of songs, recitations, and choruses, was given in capital style. Special mention might be made of the recitation "Mary, Queen of Scots," the parts being taken Miss R. Buckman and Master A. Curtiss, the "get up" of the former being very good. Miss Buckman bas also a very nice voice, and the young lady makes good use of it. After the cpncert, Mr Guy moved a vote of thanks to the teacher, Miss Prendergast, whom he complimented on the way in which the whole programme had been carried out, and he was sure tbat the parents and friends who were present would be satisfied and the teacher must feel very gratified. He would also propose a vote of thanks to Mrs Buckman, for the able manner in which she had presided at the harmonium, and to Mr Osborne, chairman of the school committee, for presiding at the concert. Mr Johnson seconded the proposition, which was carried by acclamation. The schoolroom bad been nicely decorated by the children.
