THE GLUT IN THE BUTTER MARKET. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). . London. December 22, The usual returns of the Bank of England show that the total amount of the reserve is 116,150,000, the proportion oi the reserve to the liabilities being 50*30 per cent. Three months' bills, 2£ per cent. The money market is firmer. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 106 ; 3£ do.. 955. The hemp market is steady, but busi ness is quiet. Fair New Zealand hemp is quoted at £11 ss. Danish butter is quoted at 117s. Mutton, first quality, 4ftd ; lamb, firsl qualiy, 4£d. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 295, market flat; Adelaide wheat, 80s, market quiet ; Victorian, 29s 6d, quiet. The Wool Committee expectt that a material reduction will be effected shortly in the warehouse charges. December 22. Including the Ophir's shipment, four times as much Australian butter has been landed this year as last. Members of the Butter Committee complain of their colleagues selling far below the official price. It is reported five hundred boxes of the best Victorian were recently sold at slightly over 100s.
