Boxing Day.

FEILDING ATHLETIC SPORTS. By " Athlete." The eighteenth annual gathering of the Feilding Athletic Sports will eventuate on Tuesday next on the Oval, and a few remarks may not be out of place. The committee have done all in their power to make the gathering a success, and it should excel those of previous years. The work of preparing the ground has been entrusted to Mr R. Trevena, and he is deserving of great praise for the order he has .got it in. The track is in good going form, and fast times should be recorded if the weather is favorable. Never before has there been such a representative gathering of " peds " on the Feilding ground, entries having been received from all parts of the colony, as well as a number of them from Australians who have come to our shores during the last few months. Many of the competitors have already arrived in town, and they are loud in their praises of the ground. The handicaps made their appearance at the beginning of the week, and Mr Copeland appears to have given great satisfaction. His task was a very difficult one, and he is to be congratulated on his work. As the entries were large in the several events, there will, no doubt, be large fields on the day of the sports. It is at present impossible to say who will start in the several events, and it is therefore difficult to pick any of the winners, but the following are my selections : — Sheffield Handicap.— J. H. King, 1; G.Lett, 2; W. Corby, 8. Champion.— J. H. King, 1 ; C. Werry, 2; L. T.King, 8. One Mile Walk.— T. W. Leslie, 1 ; F. W. Bowen, 2; J. Lyon, 3. Amateur, 100 yards. — G. Holder, 1 ; L.
