• — : — — The Manchester Rifles were inspected last evening by LientenentColonel Newall. There was a good muster (88) of all ranks. After the company had been proved by Color-Sergeant Milson the Colonel arrived on the ground and in* speoted the men. Cap*. Kirton, Lieut, bray, Lieut. Borlace, Sergta. Petherick, Gould, and Saywell, all in their tnrn, drilled the men in company, firing, man* nal, and sword-bayonet exercises, and skirmishing. After this Colonel Newall gave some useful practical instruction in outpost duty. At the conclusion of m the parade Colonel Newall expressed himself as being well satisfied with the continued improvement shown by the tia«o,.M>d the good attendance. He said that the par. ades for 1894 would begin in the latter part of January, by which time the holidaj s would be over. He wished them all a merry Christmas and a happy jNew Year. On behalf of the qouipaof Eirton thanked the Colonel for the com' pliaient he had paid them. To-day Colonel Newall, Mr Charles Brail and Mr P. Y.
