Waituna West Notes.

Tfrom opb owh coherspondknt.] A meeting of householders was held at. the post office store, Waituni, on Tuesday evening last, to define the boundaries of the newly declared f chool district and to elect a School committee. There were a goodly number present. On the motion of Mr Williamson Messrs E. Shannon, H. Jolly, J. S. Guylee, Jas. Fraser, and S. Strawbndge were elected a committee. After some other matters had been discussed in connection with the recreatioa ground the meeting dispersed. The newly elected committee then- met and installed Mr Guylee as chairman and Mr Jolly as secretary and treasurer. Some matters in connection with the felling of the bush, etc., were discussed, and the meeting adjourned sine (tie. Considerable improvements are now being done in the new township. On dit that Mr Doyle, who lately took over the accommodation bouse, is about to apply for a license. Talk about progress. If two pubs and two blacksmiths shops in a township, formed about two years since, area sign of progression then the township of West Waitapu is in a fair way of attaining thatdistinction. Messrs Hanson and Son have made considerable improvements to their store lately. A large bakery in connection therewith has been erected, and great credit is due to the baker for tbe vejy excellent article turned out, and to the proprietors for their enterprise. There was quite a stir on tbe 20th inst. when Messrs Gorton and Son held their first stock sale. No expense has been spared to make every con* venience for the yarding of stock, and confidence is expressed that the firm will be rewarded for their enterprise. If the first sale is any criterion, this will be one of the best stock markets the firm has, as the bidding was spirited throughout, and I believe every line was cleared at and above the reserves placed upon them. Mr Jolly has been very successful in canvassing for subscriptions for the felling of bush on the school reserve. He has collected about £12, and Mrs Fraser about £3, so that the newly elected committee will have a fund to operate on at once. There is some talk about having the offices of the Eiwitea County Council at Waituna West. It is no doubt the most cenj^J'p^sition of the county, and most convenient for the bulk of the members, ie., the members as they now represent their various wards in the Kiwitea Road Board. I trust* due consideration will be given to the matter before any decided action is taken for the establishing of the new offices.
