Pohangina Notes.
[FBOM OUB OWt! COBBESPONDENT.] A surveyor who has lately been to the trig, station just below the top of the Whariti Hill of the Ruahine Ranges (3022 ft) says the soil is re. markably good all the way up, and is well watered. There is a pretty little lake, snugly ensconced in a gully, surrounded by drooping ferns • and rank vegetation. A grand view can also be obtained of Feilding. Mr Adsett is besieged with timber orders from the township settlers. This is a healthy sign. Mr Wagstaff is delivering whole totara logs from his section above the township to Adeett's mill. Gardiner Bros, do the oarting, and have to cross the river four times. It is only heart of totara that could repay the outlay. ' ' The Anglican Church services, commenced in Mr Hopkins' woolshed by the Eev J. M. Deverieh, are carried on by Mr Ranson, a newly-appointed lay reader by the Bishop, every alternate Sunday. Mra Hopkins assists at the harmonium. The flood in the Pohangina was the highest since 1887, but no serious damage is reported. Fences and pro* toctive works were washed away, and Mr E. Port lost a number of garden and fruit trees.
