"Under the Palms."
Last eveniug a practice of the cantata " Under the Palms " was held in tli9 Primitive Methodist Church. This very beautiful composition will be given in the Assembly Rooms, in connection with the bazaar and gift sale, otf the 19th and 20th instants, and should be well worth hearing. Considerable efforts have been luade to secure a successful rendition by the leader, Mr Simpson, who has secured the services of several Palmerston singers, including Miss Grace, to assist with the solo parts. The vocalists from Palmerston, who have kindly consented to assist, were all performers in the " Messiah," which was declared to be a great success. Amongst the local soloists is Mr A. Eade, who gained so much kudos in the cnntnta "Faith Triumphant" a few years ago. Mr Eade's tenor voice is of very considerable compass, and as he is well and favorably known to FeilcHng audiences it is needless to dwell on his musical abilities. For the children's voices some fifteen or twenty juveuiles have been trained, and there are twenty-live adult voices in the other choruses. Besides the solos and choruses there will be duets and quartettes, which will be taken by vocalists who are already known to Feilding and other audiences. The conductor is not only energetic, but thoroughly understands what is required, therefore a creditable and successful performance should be the result of his labors.
