Pohangina Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board's office, Pohangina,. on Saturday last. Present— Messrs Diokin (chairman), Belli Lucas, and Browne. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read ac follows :— From W F. Marsh, asking Board to do something to bog holes on Main Cross road, Feilding Block, in No. 3 ward. From J. S. Watchorn, stating he having purchased Mr Brown's property Oroua Coal Creek Block, wished to have the gravel reserve transferred to him From Hugh Pollen, acknowledging receipt of result of poll taken in No. 5 ward for £2000 and stating same was published in New Zealand Gazette of Nov. 10, 1893. From E. Goodbehere, stating there was no separate rate roll of Pohangina district for 1892-93 ; rates were included in the Kiwitea roll ; also, stating the amount of the proportion for work on Oroua Valley road is £180. From H J. Haynf , statement of rates due on Nov. 17th, 1893, in each ward ; also, summary sheet showing rates levied for 1893 94, with arrears from 1892 93, and amounts received and still outstanding. From P Kerrigan and T. Roberts, drawing Board's attention to state of No 3 line.— Attended to. From A. T. Aldrioh, junr., asking permission to fell road line fronting section 3, Block 11. Pohangina, From J. P. Brandon, enclosing authority from James Breen for Colonial Bank manager to receive all moneys and sign receipts. — This letter to. lay on the table till tho Secretary procures a copy of the Workmen's Lien Act. From F. E. Flavall, \V. A. Spicer, Chas. Bray, J. Aitken, and G. "W. Foote, asking permission to fell road lines fronting their sections. From Wangannl Harbor Board, enclosing cheque for £50 subsidy for drain. From R. Bngg, asking permission to cut drain to let water from bis section into road drain. From Manager Bank of Australasia, Feilding, stating he had sent cheque back to Land Office with memo to say Board banks at Colonial Bank, Paltuerston N. From H J Hayns, engineer, a report. From A. A. Wagstaff and Matthias P. Mai, asking Board to separate their names in rate book for 8 and 9, Block X, PohaDgina. From Adsett and Son, asking to be placed on rate roll for section 37, Pohangina, suburban ; and also permission to fell bush on road line. From F. Leary, asking the Board to close road during metalling of same. From J. McKenzie, asking to have his name placed on rate roll for sections Nob. 8 and 35, Pohangina township. From D. Hughey, asking to be plaoed on rate roll for part of section 21, Block XIV, Pohangina. From D. Mcßeth, asking permission to fell bush on Main Bidgo road, section 4, block XV ; also, asking that the name of A. Y. Mcßeth be put on the rate book, to anpear as D. and A. Y. Mcßeth. From Under-secretarv Publio Works Department, stating that letter of 16th with plans of Oroua bridge was to hand, and (hat it had been forwarded to Minister of Lands. From Wanganui Harbour Board, re £ for £ promised by that Board for drain through Fobangina tonoshtp, stating money would be available after December 1. From Bank of New Zealand, in refer* ence to McCurdy's contract, and stating they hold an order for payment of bat* ance of money on contract. From C. J. Culling, asking the Board to place his name on rate roll for section No. 2, block VII, and of H. H. Culling for section 1, township of Pohangina.

From 6. B. H. Ibbotson, re progress payment on roads through Forest reserve. From D. McCurdy, re his contract and payment of his moneys into Bank of New Zealand. From F. Lean and B. Healy, asking permission to use gravel from road side for metalling road through township. From District Land and Survey Office, forwarding list of thirds available and a scheme re appropriation of same ; also, forwarding £48? 19s to bank of Australasia, Feilding, being amount of hypothecated thirds to October 31, 1893. From E.C. Green, J. Print, R. Print, j J. Hopkirk, asking the Board to have their thirds spent on a 6 feet track on Gorge road to the boundary of section 3, Blook 11, Gorge Survey District, to give access to their seotions. From J, P. Brandon, manager Colonial Bank, informing this Board that £487 19s had been placed to Board's credit. From Geo Duncan, asking for remuneration for injuries received while in the Board's employ. , . Proposed by Mr Bell, seconded by Mr Luoas, That the lease of gravel reserve be transferred from Mr A. A. Brown, to Mr Watchorn —Carried. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Dickin, That wheel traffic be suspended until December 28 (inclusive) on such portion of the Pohangina road as is inducted in Mr F. Leary's cantraot— Carried. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Bell, That permission be granted to the following ratepayers to fell road linei fronting their sections;— A, S. Aldricb, junr., seotion 3, Block 11, Pohangina; D, Moßeth, section 38, Block XV ; T. E. Flavall, seotion 17, Block XII, ApitijG. \V Foote, section 22, suburban, Poban* gina ; \V. A. Spicer, section 28, suburban, Pohangina ; C. Bray and J. Aitken, seotion 20 and 22, Wanganni Harbor Board ; Adsett and Son, section No. 87, Pohangina ; E. Hopkins, section 26, Wanganui Harbor Board— Carried. Proposed by Mr Diokin, seconded by Mr Browne, That Adrian Porter be granted a lease of gravel reserve on his section on Board's usual terms, that is, in accordance with minutes previously passed by Board.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Bell, That all correspondence for the Board b* in by 10 a.m. on the day of meeting, and tbat all accounts for pay. ment be in by 5 P.m.. on the day before the meeting. Proposed by Mr Luoas, seconded by Mr Bell, That tenders be called (to be in by 12 o'clock on the 23rd of December, and dealt with by Warden Lucas and the Engineer) for 500 yards, more or less, of clean road metal, to be delivered on the main road throngh the Feilding Small Farm Block, the roadman to spread and point out where the metal is requiredCarried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Bell, That the secretary write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking him if he will vest in this Board the piece of land between pegs XXVII and XXX on on tho Buff Forest Reserve for gravel and outlet drain.— Carried. reply, in wliioh he states that the municipal reserves in tho Pohaogiaa township will be dealt with by the Waste Land Board if not required for the purposes for which they are put aside, and to point out to him that this Board require the municipal reserves for the purposes for which they are reserved— namely, (o raise revenue to make roads in the township, especially as the Government has sold the land without making any pro* vision whatever for roadmg, and that this Board wishes particularly to draw the Commissioners attention to sub- section 2 of section 17, Land Act, 1892, and that the secretary write to Mr Pirani, M.H.E.; also, asking him to support the motion at next meeting of Land Board.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Bell, That the secretary write to the I Wanganui Harbar Board, asking for a return showing the amouot in detail spent by the Harbour Board in clearing, formation, and metalling of roads in the Endowment Block outside of the Pohangina No. 2 Special Settlement Association.—Carried. Proposed by M* Browne, seconded by Mr Bell, That Mr Bugg's application re drain be granted, provided he puts timber in Board's drain at end of his drain to prevent water from cutting into road.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Lncas, That the Secretary write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking . for a return showing the number of sections, and the area, in the Wanganui Harbor Board Endowment Block, disposed of on deferred payment exclusive of the association ; also, the amount realised by such sale,— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Bell, That the Secretary notify to the Government Printer the Board's address (re Gazette or other paper); also, apply Mr Goodbeher* for the Gazettes in his possession, containing notices of import tance to Pohangina Road Board.— Carried Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Dickin, That it be an instruction to the Secretary to get all leases ot gravel reserves, or any leases, that are granted by this Board drawn up and signed.— Carried, Proposed by Mr (Lucas, seconded by Mr Browne, That ten per cent of the defaulting ratepayers be drawn to be sued at the next Bitting of the Resident Magistrate's Court.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Dickin, seconded by Mr Lucas, That Messrs Green, Print, and Hopkirk, be informed that their request to nave " thirds," accruing from their sections, spent on the Gorge road will be agreed to by tbe Board —Carried. Mr Jefferies waited on the Board, re payment of money due for bushfellingi and was informed the Board were not in funds at present. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Dickin, That as the whole of section 21, Block XIV, is now in the name of Mrs R. Port, Mr D. Hughey be informed that her consent is necessary before bis application can be agreed to.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Dickin, seconded by Mr Browne, That Mr Wm. Hart's tender for printing be accepted. Proposed by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Dickia, That the tender of p. L. Warm for busbfelling and clearing in No. 3 Ward, contract 28, be accepted. — Carried. Accounts, amounting to £738 8s Bd, were passed for payment and tbe Board adjourned.
