The Russian Government ordered the closing of a Eoman Catholic church in Kovno, the capital of the Government of the same name in European Eussia, on the Baltic. The Catholics resented the interference and occupied the church. Troops were summoned to expel them, and in doing so killed 20 and wounded 100. The remainder fled and were pur sued by the Cossacks, Many lost their lives attempting to cross tbe river Niemon. '
