Feilding Races
FIRST DAY. Following are the remainder of the results for the first day's races :— St. Andrew's Handicap, of 200 soys; second horse 25 soys, and third horse 5 soys, from the stakes; one mile and a half. 92 Mr Dane's Musket, Bst 41b (Colello) ! 134 Mr Calthrop's Monte i Carlo 7st 121 b (Lett) ... ... .„' 2 35 Mr Lovejoy's Musketeer, 7st lib (Watt) ... ... ... ... 3 All the acceptors started, namely, 185 Erina Bst 21b; 103, Ua Bst 21b; 30* Variety 7st 71b; 53, St Laura 7st4lb; 23, Haeta 6st 71b. A good start wag effected, all the horses getting away well together and as they rounded the first bend Monte Carlo showed in front, closely followed by Haeta, St. Laura, and Ua, in the order named with Musketeer last. As they entered the straight Monte Carlo was was still in the lead with St Laura, Haeta, Variety, Krina. and Musket, in close attendance. Monte Carlo maintained the lead passing the stand, with Musketeer and Krina last. They were all racing in a bunch round the back of the course, Monte Carlo and St Laura still leading, when Musketeer made a final but fruitless attempt to get in front. Racing in a bunch round the bend into the straight Musket came with a great rush and followed Monte Carlo into the straight, with all the whips out. The grey gelding was, however, too fleet for his opponents, galloped to the front, and led past the winning post, with Monte Carlo, a leDgth away, second, and Musketeer, two lengths behind the second horse, third. The order of the others was Variety, Ua, Krina, St Laura, and Haeta. Totaliaator, £655 ; dividend, £6 Bs. Time, 2min 44 2-sth sees. First Handicap Hack Flat of 25sovs ; second horse 5 soys from stakes. Mile and a quarter. Mr E. Barns' Irish Twist, 7st 181 b (Colello) i Mr J. Better's Magazine, Bst 51b (Schaffer) ... 2 Mr G. E. Wilson's Sunday School, 7st (Hall) a The other starters were— Comfort and Cora, who finished in that order named. The horses were got away to a good start, with Magazine in the lead and as they passed the stand Sunday School took the lead, followed by Comfort, Cora, Magazine and Irish Twist, all hard held. Racing round to the back of the course Magazine went to the front, with the remainder in a bunch close up. Coming round the bend into the straight Sunday School challenged the leader, but Colello let Irish Twist out and won by about two lengths, with Magazine and Sunday School racing for second place, the former however, pulled it off by about a length. Time, 2min 27 3.ssecs. Totalisator £247 ; Dividend, £1 13s, % Kiwitea Stakes, of 50sovb ; second horse ssovs from the stakes. One mile, 104 Mr D. Knight's Prioress, 7stlßlb (Lett) l 64 Mr T. O'Neill'a Daisy Clipper, 7st 21b (Johnston) ... 2 37 Mr A. B. Newmans Avis, 6st 121 b (Myers) 3 Cordelia Tat 81b was the only other starter and was made a favorite on the machine. From a good start Cordelia and Prioress went to the front, Avis being last. Prioress led round to the back of the course, where Avis took the lead and put two lengths between himself and the trio, Prioress being second, Daisy Clipper third. Coming into the straight Prioress came to the front and ran home & winner, with a length to spare from Daisy Clipper, Avis being about a length and a half behind the chestnut. Time, lmin 48 2-5 sees Totalisator £341 ; Dividend, £2 195. A protest was entered against Prioress' win on the ground that she was scratched which the trainer denied, and then started. The committee dismissed the protest. First Handicap Hack Flying, of 20sovs. Five furlongs. 96 Mr E. Barns' Irish Twist, Bst 51b (Colello) ... 1 47 Mr J. Green's Bloomsbnry, Bst 51b (Morris) , 2 113 Mr J. Better's Magazine, Bst 111 b (Schaffer) 8 The other starters were— s2 Pihanga, 7st 61b ; 55 Marama, 9st 51b ; 31 Cyrus, Bst 21b ; 8 Westoe, 7st 71b ; 17 Rynda, 6st 121 b ; 7 Never Return, 6st 71b ; 5 Amy6st7lb; 4 Comfort, 6gt 71b. From a straggling start Marama's colors showed to the front and led into the straight, where Irish Twist, Bloomsbnry, Marama and Magazine had a flutter, resulting as stated above with the former about half a length in front. Time, lmin 7 8-ssecs. Totalisator, £435 ; Dividend, £4 Is. J. Green, the owner of Bloomsbnry, entered a protest against the winner, but it was dismissed. Welter Handicap of 40sovs ; second horse Ssovs from the stakes. One mile. 48 Mr E. Jackman's King John, lOst 21b (Kingan) 1 36 Mr G. Blenheim's Hing Harry, lOst 71b (Peters) ... ... 2 89 Mr J. Wilson's Poinsettia list (T.Scott) 8 A good start was effected and the trio were led in a bunch round the back of the course by King John, who gave way to Poinsettia coming round the home bend. Coming into the straight King John came with a splendid rush, and after a neck and neck race to within a chain or two of the winning post the trio stretched out, about a length dividing each. Totalisator L 123 ; Dividend, L 2 6s. In the unavoidable absence of Mr Goodbehere, the Secretary, yesterday, Mr Chas. Carr made a most efficient and courteous locum tenena. The publican's booth was supplied by Mr Bastings and the refreshment booth by Mr J. Smith, both of whom gave the greatest satisfaction. In the latter part of the day Mr Ward took charge of the scales. The amount passed through the totalisetor for the first day's races was L 2689.
