Assisting the Banks in Sydney

[Per Press Association! Sydney, November 29. Speaking on the Bank Bill in the Legislative Assembly last night, Reid said that paid up capital was afforded no protection where the assets of the banks were situated in other countries. He moved the recommittal of the bill to substitute for "paid up capital " the words " paid up capital used with in the colony." He also advocated the retention of gold at the head offices to cover the note issue. Mr Reid's motion was negatived on division by 58 to 26, his own party deserting him and leaving him alone with the labour party. The third reading of the Bill was carried by 60 to 25.
