THE GENERAL ELECTION.
VICTORY FOR THE GOVERNMENT. MR ROLLESTON AND MR SCOBIE MACKENZIE DEFEATED. ELECTION OF SIR MAURICE O'RORKE. The good people of Feilding last night had a merry time of it in Manchester street and at the post And telegraph office where anxious crowds were assembled to hear the results, and discuss probabilities. The usual amount of horee-play was indulged in, and many "ancient" eggs were in evidence, while enough flour was wasted as would have fed a large proportion of the famishing poor in Sydney. However, the greatest good humour prevailed and no bones were broken. Each telegram as it came to hand to members of the several committees was eagerly read, and the lists compared. At ten o'clock, or there abouts, it was known that Mr Stevens was leading by a majority of over sixty, and that the election was over as far as Rangitikei was concerned. Still the people were hungry for more news and it was not until after one o'clock this morning that the telegraph closed Following are the results of the elections :—
