The Public Trust Office, constituted by " The Public Trust Olllcq Act, 1872," hfia been &ince much enlarged in its functions by amending Acts, to meet growing requirements. The Amendment Act of 1891 facilitates admiuistratiou, authorises prompt distribution, provides absolute security against loss to estates from investments at tho discretion of tho l'ublic Trustee, and insures the regular payment of the interest. Tbo Security and Fidelity of the Public Trustee's administration must bo considered of tho utmost importance to every person contemplating the appointment of a trustee. Tho colony guarantees the fidelity of the administration, and Guarantees also the Integrity of the Capital Funds invested at tho option of the Public Trustee. The Colony Guarantees also, on the capital funds arising for investment out of the properties placed in tho Public Trust Office, % common rate of interest, to bo paid quarterly, Free of all charges of the Public Trust Office. The value of this guaranteo is in the Cuarantee of the Colony against loss from investments in bad or Insufficient securities, and against loss from delay in investment, and for tbo regular and punctual payment of the interest, free of all charges of (ha l'ublic Trust Office. In tho appointment of Trustees there must always be serious concern as to the security of the capital funds : and tho larger the capital funds the greater mußt bo tho concern for Becurity, and tho less for a high rato of interest. The Public Trustee cannot die, cannot leave tho colony, cannot become disqualified, or involved in private difficulties; and cannot be distrusted. In private trusteeships, death and absonce ronder necessary numerous and expousive deeds not required by Public Trustee's administration, which has, besides, the offloo solicitor's advice without oxponso to the estates.
