In a recent article we drew a comparison between tho remarks made by Mr Willis, one of the candidates or Wanganui, at an interview with a member of the staff of the Tuapeka Timee, oa tho subject of Mr Seddon as loader of the Liberal party, in which Mr Willis was the reverse of complimentary to the Premier, and that part of Mr Willis' speech in Wanganui, where he said he ouiy ac knowledged Mr Seddon as his leader, etc. In justice to Mr Willis we publish tho following extract from a lettor in the W r anganui Herald of yestorday, in which he says :— " The production contains a modicum of truth, but the exaggerations are so apparent as to be very amusing. The alleged remarks of the Premier about * falling in line ' over the leather passes is a pure invention of the writer, as such an occurrence never took place, nor did I, at any time, express a wish to be possessed of oue of the much treasured gold medals. The statement in the concluding part, concerning my alleged criticisms of the Premier and Sir Robert Stout is so distorted as to be absolutely incorrect. Willing as lam to acknowledge tho intellectual ability of the latter, I never made a comparison to the dis paragement of the Premier. I am surprised that for the purpose of making political capital out of a private conversation, such a questionable course was resorted to as the manufacture of the paragraph referred to.
