Ladies and Gentlemen — I HAVE just been informed that a rumour is being industriously circulated to the effect that I am about to retire from the contest for the representation of this Electorate. I now most emphatically state that the rumour is false and has been put into circulation for the purpose of damaging my candidature. I have no reason whatever for retiring, and my doing so would be an ungrateful return for the liberal and hearty support that I am receiving throughout every part of the Electorate.
