Sir Mathew Puvies and Messrs MiU ledge and Muutzhuve been committed for trial. Mr Cox. in giving evidence, declared his object in taking the present action was because to Ins mind there bad been a grout miscarriage of justice. The Parliament Tariff Board is taking evidence in the country. There is a general concurencc among the witnesses who are chiefly farmers, in favour of intercolonial freetrade. The increased freight charged on the railways to prevent Victorian wheat going to Adelaide is referred to as an injustice that ought to be remedied. Wyatt, who was concerned m the baby-farming cases, has been acquitted. This Day. The Government has decided to ask Sir Andrew Clarke to fill the position of Agent-General for Victoria for a few months longer. The Government con« sider it essential that the gentleman who nest fills the position should possess energy and determination to find markets in Great Britain and Europe for Victorian products. In consequence of the territorial revenue falling £58,000 below the Treasurer's estimate since July, it has been decided to press selectors and Crown lessees for their arreas in rents amounting to over £600,000. Investigation into the affairs of the South Melbourne Building Society has discovered another £40,000 to be missing. This is attributed to fraud on the part of Matthew Larkin, late Secretary of the Society, who is at present serving a sentence of six .years' penal servitude for defrauding the institution. Sydkey, November 22. Arrived — Mararoa, from Auckland. When IGO miles oil the coast one of the pistons broke the cylinder cover, and caused a delay of fifteen hours. It is not expected the departure of the vessel will be delayed. A serious outbreak of pleuro-pneu-monia is reported from Moree. Out of a mob of 1300 cattle, 200 have succumbed. Owing to Parliament meeting early next year, Tasmania is unable to be represented. The ship Cromdalo has arrived from London. The captain reports passing a large ship capsiged 150 miles south»west of Madeira. He could see no trace of her name, and there was no sign of the crew. Tho Tesscl was apparently timber laden. The Cromdale visited the Crozets, but nothing was discovered there. Glasson, who lies under sentence of death for the Carcoar murder, is resigned to his doom, and declares that he is weary of waiting his torture. Adelaide, November 23. Tho body of an unknown man, en deutly foully murdered, has been found in the Murray river. It may have come from New South Wales territory. This Day. The hull of a three-masted American schooner, of 300 tons, has been washed ashore near Port Caroline. The vessel has apparently been drifting about for several years, and there is no clue as to 1 her name,
