IPbbPress Association. Chbistchubch, November 21. Tbe Hon Mr Seddoa states that the telegram from Hokitika that he desired to make the Legislative Council elective is incorrect. What he said was that the Councillors should not be nominated for life but should be periodically brought face to face with the people and their actions would thus bo reviewed. He is opposed to an elective Council. Dctnedin, November 21. The New Zealand Chess Congress will be commenced at the Otago Club rooms on 26th December. Trophies of the value of Lls, LlO and L 5 will be given and a number of others are promised. The Tareri Show was held to«day. A successful feature, as usual, was the display of draught horses.
