The Feilding Star. Published Daily. SATURDAY, NOV. 18, 1893. A DISCREPANCY.

A contemporary informs us that Mr Willis, who succeeded the late Mr Ballance as member for Wanganui, has not formed a very high opinion of the House, the Government, or the Premier. Interviewed by a representative of the Tuapeka Times, he said : — The money of the country was fought for and scrambled for day by day by members, and the man who sold him self oftenest, and voted most blindly and unquestioningly at the call of Party, was the man who brought home most of the spoil to his constituents. The independent stand he took himself on the leather medal business brought him into disagreeable conflict with tbe Premier. At the conclusion of the debate, the latter accosted the member for Wanganui in the lobby, and, raising his great voice, shouted : "Now, then, Willis, opposition like this won't do ; you must fall in line, else ." Mr Willis warmly resented being threatened in such a manner, and asserted his right to express himself as his sense of right and judgment dictated on all suitable occasions. Since then "a change has come o'er the spirit of his dream," because in bis speech at Wanganui the other night Mr Willis is reported to have said " he only knew one leader of the Liberal party (Mr Seddon), and so long as the latter remained leader he 1 would follow him."
