Cheviot Estate Sale
«. [Per Press Association! Chbistchuhch, November 17. The portions of the Cheviot Estate, for sale by cash, were submitted to auction in the Provincial Council Chamber to-day, by Messrs Matson and Co., in the presence of a large number of people. The first lots put up were sections in Mackenzie township. No sooner had the first seotion ' been put up than bids oame thick and fast and some of the most spirited competition seen here for many years took place, many sections bringing more than double the upset 'price. Several of the sections were bought by religious bodies, including the Salvation Army, and several large mercantile firms also obtained sections, every allotment being sold. There were thirty-three township sections, of a total upset value of £331, and the amount realised by the sale was £825. The homestead blook of 5000apree, together with mansion, was submitted^ at the upset price of £25,000, biit 30 bid was elioited.
