The Public Trust Office, constituted by "Tho Public Trust Office Act, 1872," baa been since much enlarged in its functions by amending Acts, to moot growing requirements. Tbe Amendment Act of 1691 facilitates administration, authorises prompt distribution! provides absolute security against loss to estates from investments at tbe discretion of the l'ublic Trustee, and insures the regular payment of tbe interest. The Security and Fidelity of the Public Trußtee'a administration mußt be considered of the utmost importance to every person contemplating the appointment of a trustee. The colony guarantees the fidelity of the administration, and Guarantees also the Integrity of the Capital Funds invested at the option ot the Public Trustee. The Colony Guarantees also, on the capital funds arising for investment out of the properties placed in the Public Trust Office, ft common rate of interest, to bo paid quarterly, Free of all charges of the Public Trust Office. The value of this guarantee is in the Guarantee of the Colony against loss from investments in bad or insufficient securities, and against loss from delay in investment, and for tho regular and punctual payment of the interest, free of all charges of tn» Public Trust Office. In the appointmont of Trustees there must always be serious concern as to the security of the capital funds: and the larger tho capital funds the greater must be tbe concern for security, and tho less for a high rate of interest. The Public Trustee cannot die, cannot leave tbo colony, cannot bocome qisqualified, or involved in private difficulties; and cannot be distrusted. In private trusteeships, death and absence render nocossary numerous and expensive deeds not required by Public Trustee s administration, which has, besides, the offioe solicitor's advice without expense to the ostatos. By all who know or have experienced tbe contingencies of private trusteeships tho»e advantages must be appreciated.
