The Cheviot Estate.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRiSTOHimcn, November 15. The ballot for the Cheviot lands too place today in the presence of seven hundred persons. Tne land opened fo selection was as follows -.—Rural lease ii perpetuity, 06 sections, of an aggregat area of 12,482 acres ; Tillage homesteai allotments, 66 sections, a total area 0 1550 acres, small gazing farms, three 0 a total area of 2506 acres. Six bund re( and fifty five applications were receive for 54 rural lease in perpetuitp section; Six of these sections only were appliec for by one person each, and so requiret no ballot the rest having to be ballotted There were 252 applications for 56 villagi homestead allotments, and for five sections there was only one" applicant each the rest being all contested. There wen 16 applications for three small grazini farms all going to the ballot. The number of applications for rural lease in perpetuity sections ranged from one to 3fi pet section, the average being slight!? over 12. For one of the village settlement sections 23 applications were in, for another 22, and for another 20, the average being somewhaCover four. The applications were from people in all parts of the colony.
