Opening up Fresh Land
Advantage is being taken by tbe Survey Department of the near apprpacli of summer to push on the surveys in the Waimanno country. In this block there are at least 200,000 acres available for selection, and by the end of the season the department hope to have some of the lands ready for settlement. In addition to this work several association blocks are now being surveyed. The intention is to push through tho surveys this summer so that selectors may begin bushfalling on their sections in the winter. Settlement is progressing rapidly along tho mnin road from Pipiriki through the Waimarino Block into Okakune, near the foot of Buapehu. A considerable area of bush has been felled, and several settlers have already taken up residences along the lino of main road. It is hoped that the entire, extent of this road will be available for wheeled traffic early next year. When this result has been achieved, wheeled traffic may pass along the road from either Hunterville or Napier right through to the Wanganui river at Pipiriki. — Times. *
