Ladies and Gentlemen, — I BEG to announce myself as a Candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming General Election. I will take an early opportunity of addressing you on the political questions of the day, in the various centres of population in the Electorate. F. Y. LETHBRIDGE. TO THE ELECTORS OF OTAKI. Ladies and Gentlemen, — AT the solicitation of a large number of the Electors I have decided to contest the Election in the Liberal interest and as a supporter of the Government. I will take an early opportunity of explaining to you my views upon the leading political questions of the day. I have the honour to be Your obedient Servant, DONALD FRASER. I ADVOCATE— 1. Greater economy in the public service. — All salaries above £600 to be reduced to £600 ; salaries from £600 to £500, reduction of 10 per cent ; from £500 to £400, reduction of 1\ per cent ; from £400 to £300, 5 per ] :ent. No reduction below £300. The Governor's salary to be reduced from £5000 to £2,500. This enormous saving to be spent in reproductive works, in opening up the country and absorbing the unemployed labor. 2. Taxation.— Land and Income Tax, with an increase of the graduated tax, and decrease of the Custom's duties on the necessaries of life. 3. Railways. — To be managed by a Board of three Directors, with the Minister of Public Works as Chairman. 4. Land. — Limitation of area of first-class land to 1000 acres for one family, retention of the ballot, perpetual lease with right of purchase. Land Boards to be elected. 5. Education. — The retention of the present system of National education, with the following improvements : — The Boards to be elected by the householders instead of by committees. In districts where there is not sufficient accommodation in the Board schools, capitation to be paid for children otherwise educated. 6. Native Lands.— This is: Land held under Native custom. The owners have the option of either selling or leasing to the Crown, or individualising their titles ; lands Crown granted to be treated as land held by Europeans. 7. Legislative Council to be elected for six years. 8. A reduction of honorarium from £240 to £150 per annum. MR FRASER will Address the Electors as follows : — Monday, 13 — Sanson .
