Shocking Accident
(pee pbess association). Auckland, This Day. An accident of a distressing character, which will probably end fatally, occurred at Onehunga last night. Miss Maggie Coutts, a daughter of the Engineer of the Woollen Mills, started tor the latter in a canter. The horse became unmanageable and dashed away at a gallop. Miss Coutts began to lose her seat as she was falling off the horse and its rider swept past a square telephone post. The girl struck the post with terrific force and nearly the whole of her face was cut away as with a knife. The base of the skull was fractured, the nose was almost entirely severed from the face, the mouth was fearfully lacerated, and one eye completely destroyed. Maggie Coutts is only 18 years of age and an unusually bright and spirited temperament.
