THE Public Trust Office of New Zealand is a Government institution to afford, at low rates Of Commission, a socure and convenient recourse for those who, desirous of forming trusts in tli 0 colony, cauuot satisfactorily appoint private trustees or executors, and for persons unablo or unwilling to undortako or continue tbo administration of tbo trusts accepted by or imposed upon them. The Public Trust Office, constituted by "Tbe Public Trust Ofllco Act, 1872," has been since much enlarged in its functions by amending Acts, to meet growing requirements. The Ainendmout Act of 1691 facilitates administration, authorises prompt distribution, provides absolute security against loss to estates from investments at tbo discretion of tbo Public Trustee, and insuros the regular payment of the interest. The Security and Fidelity of the Public Trustee's administration must bo considered of tho utmost importance to evory person contemplating tho appointment of a trustee. The colony guarantees the fidelity of the administration, and Guarantees also the Integrity of the Capital Funds invested at tbe option of tbe Public Trustee. Tbe Colony Guarantees also, on the capital funds arising for investment out of tbe properties placed in tho Public Trust Office, a common rate of interest, to be paid quarterly, Free of all charges of the Public Trust Office. Tho valuo of this guarantee is in the Guarantee of the Colony against loss from investments in bad or insufficient securities, and against loss from delay in investment, and for tbe regular and punctual payment of tho interest, free of all charges of the Public Trust OJJUx. In the appointment of Trustees there must always be serious concern as to the security of the capital funds ; and tho larger tbe capital funds tho greater must be tho concern for security, and the less for a high rate of intorost. Tbe Public Trustee cannot die, cannot loavo tho colony, cannot becomo aisqualified, or involved in privato difficulties; and cannot be distrusted. In privato trusteeships, death aud absenoe render nocossary numerous and expensive deeds not required by Public Trustoe's administration, which has, besides, tho offioe solicitor's advice without expense to the estates.
