Melbourne, October 25. ] The committee of the Victorian Racing j Club have upheld the appeal against the decision of the Victorian Amateur Turf Chib in dismissing the protest against Tim Swiveller in the Caulfield Cup. On Mr George Davis, owner of Tim Swiveller, enquiring from Mr H, Bjron Moore, secretary of the Victorian Racing Clnb, whether the fact of the appeal being upheld nisant the disqualification of Tim Swiveller in the Caulfield Cup and the placing of Sainfoin first and Oxido second, the secretory replied that the onlv information he was empowered to give was that the appeal had been upheld. There was intense excitement amongst the sporting fraternity when the decision of the Victorian Racing Club Stewards was announced. The bookmakers are terribly indignant at the result of the appeal, as they are heavily hit over Sain foin, whilst thev miss a comparative " skinner " with Tim SwiTeller. In consequence of the probable removal of the 14Jbs penalty incurred for a victory in the Caulfield Cup, Tim Swiveller has advanced to 100 to 8 for the Melbourne Cup. Sailor Prince is favourite for the Derby at 100 to 20, and Patron and Pulvil are next in estimation at 100 to 17. A wager of 700 to 100 has been taken about Pulvil. All the money in the market has been exhausted on Loyalty at 100 to 9, but 500 to 50 was afterwards accepted ; 500 to 90 Sailor Prince for the Derby (taken) ; 800 to 100 Pnlvil. Lord Hopetoun has been backed to win about 7000 for the Cup at 100 to 2, but still on offer; 2000 to 80 Sternchaser (taken). Malvolio is doing splendid work at Caulfield, and Camooia at Mentone.
