The vital statistics for September show the deaths from measles in the four large towns fell from 26 in August to 11. At a meeting of the Education Board the following resolution wus passed — " The attention of the Board having been called to the system of excessive home lessons said to exist in some schools in the district, the Board strongly disapproves such course and recommends teachers to give as little home exercises as possible. A man named Joseph Andrews, of Tawatai road, near Alfredton. was found hanging in the bush near his residence. He had been missing for several days. It is evidently a case of suicide.
