Folding R.M Court

(Before Mr Brabant, 8.M.) The following cases were disposed of after we went to press yesterday : — I Thomas Chamberlain v William Mana»h, claim £24 4s 9d on a judgment j summons. Mr Beade for the plaintiff and Mr Richmond, instructed by Mr Prior, for the defendant. William Managh was examined at length by Mr Beade. Defendant admitted that he, within the last six weeks, poss essed a dray, coach, and four horses, j which he had sold to Mr Lowes for £85. Out of this Mr Lowes had deducted a sum ' of £30 for board and lodgings, and had I given him a bill at three months for the balance ; believed the bill was in the bank ; admitted he had got it discounted, and had received the proceeds ; had paid Mr Tuohey (as bailiff) 4!10 in settlement of I a judgment obtained against him ; had also paid some smaller accounts, but could not name them. After counsel had addressed the Court, His Worship decided that this was a case for an order, the debtor not only having been able to pay the debt, but had done his best to conceal the position of of his affairs from the Court. An order would be made for payment of the amount claimed within three days, in default six weeks' imprisonment in Wan* ganui gaol. Thomas Ryan v John Fraser, claim £3 Is. Mr Reado for plaintiff, for whom judgment was given, with costs 14s. Mrs Jane Turner's application for a protection order against her husband, Edward Turner, was granted Mr Sand Hands appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr McLean for the defendant.
