Wellington Diocesan Synod
A BISHOP NOT YET APPOINTED. (.HER PRKSS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, This Day, The annual session of the Wellington Diocesan Synod opened this afternoon. Archdeacou Faucourt presided, and expressed regret at the retirement of Bishop Hadfield, and the resignation of the Bishop of Waiapu. He oxpressed surprise that no information was to hand in reply to a letter sent in June last to the Arch bishop of York and tho Bishop of Durvan respecting a Bishop for Wellington. He hoped that no attempt would be made this session to bring about a change in the Acts or Resolutions by fresh legislation. Ho referred at length to the largo increase in population in the district and tho attempt of the church to keep hold of her people, but, he stated, there were two things which crippled her efforts, viz., means and want of men If the church was to thrive it must have its ranks re* cruited by tho sons of leading citizens.
