Deputation to the Premier
♦ This morning Mr Lowes, of Pemberton, Mr Kirton, and Mr Peter Thomson waited on the Premier as a deputation to ask for some assistance from the Govern* ment towards putting in order that por tion of the Kimbolton Road between Birmingham and Pemberton. Mr Peter Thomson explained the ob* jeer of the deputation. Mr Lowes stated that the Road Board bad no funds to do the required work, and pointed out the difficulties settlers in the back blocks had to overcome in getting in their supplies. Mr Seddon said that Government could not be expected to maintain roads which were under the control of a Road Board. Mr Kirton explained that the road in question opened up a large section of Government land. Mr Seddon said in that oase perhaps the circumstances wore exceptional, and something might be done. Mr Lowes informed the Premier that a meeting of settlers was to be held today at Birmingham to see what could be done in tho matter. Mr Seddon, in reply, said to help them it would be advisable to let him have a copy of the resolutions passed by the meeting ; also, full particulars of what was needed, in order that he might be able to lay them before the Minister of Lands, who would cause enquiry to be made. The deputation thanked the Premier and withdrew.
