The Feilding Star. Published Daily. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1893. THE RANGITIKEI SEAT.
Tub most popular candidate in the field is undoubtedly Mr Frank Yates Lethbridge. In every part of the electorate he is respected" for his usefulness as a member of local bodies, as well as for his character as a man. It is not too much to say that he will get a block vote for Feilding, and the support of a majority of the electors in the Manchester, Kiwitea, Apiti, and in fact most of the districts in the electorate on this side of the Rangitikei river. For a country representative the best experience to give a thorough knowledge of the wants of his constituents is that obtained in the management of the atiairs of local bodies. Perhaps no man in the colony has availed himself more of his opportunities in this respect than Mr Lethbridge. Whether as Mayor or Councillor ofthe Borough of Feilding, Chairman or member of the Manchester Road Board, member of the Boards of Wanganui and Palmerston North Hospital Districts, he has always earned the esteem of those with whom he waa associated, as well as of the general public, for his unfailing punctuality in attendance at meetings, and the careful and judicious manner in which he carried out the functions of the several positions. He is a man of the strictest honor and probity, who, under a quiet and almost reserved demeanour, conceals a n.ind resolute and determined in the accomplishment of any good 1 object he has in view. Of studious habits, although an active worker as a farmer and pioneer settler, he is well posted up in current events, and so far as it is possible for one who has never sat in Parliament, he knows the political history of the colony thoroughly. The candidature of Mr Lethbridge did notorigituite with hitu, but with the people who know him so well. In fact, it is not too much to say that he has for years past been looked upon as one who was well fitted to represent this electorate, and on whom the honor would be conferred when the occasion arose. Of his political views and opinions the electors will have plenty of opportunities of judging in the course of a very few days, when he will initiate a series of addresses in the various centres of population.
