Feilding Borough Council.

■♦ The usual monthly meeting ot the above was held last evening in the Council Chambers. Present — The Mayor (Mr E. Goodbehere), Messrs Gould, Morey, Fowles, Worsfold, and T. B. Chamberlain. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Crs Carthew and Sandilands. The minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : — From J. B. Hamilton, asking to have footpath constructed opposite his new shops in Manchester street; also, for permission to erect verandah in front of same. — Granted on the usual conditions. From Dr C. Charlton, reporting a case of diphtheria. From E. Giesen, manager Colonists' l<and and Loan Corporation, re drainage of land opposite the Bank of New Zealand in Fergusson street. From J. Greenwood, re draining sections 240, 241, 255, 256, into the Makino stream. From C. J. Wickham, asking to be placed on the rate roll for part section 351, in place of W. T. Bowater. From A. C. Ritchie, enclosing cheque for £17 13s lid from Charitable Aid Board. ■ • From Joseph Clementson, applying to be registered as the keeper of a Servants' Registry Office. From John Prior enclosing account against Borough Council. From Mrs J. Qlaphain, drawing attention to that portion of Sherwill street leading to her property. Report Public Works Committee was read as follows : — Eyre street — The committee recommend that this street be formed from the railway line to Denbigh street, a distance of about 13 chains. Sherwill street — The committee recommend that an additional 5 chains of this street be metalled. Re Mrs Sandilands' application the committee find that the water cannot be diverted as suggested. With re- - ference to Mrs Claphain's application ' for improvements in Sherwill street, the committee cannot make any recommendation. From Fairfield Thompson, re stagnant water in Pharazyn street. From G. C. Hill, stating that he had inspected the gravel pit complained of by Mr F. Thompson and ~ that no nuisance existed. - The report of the Finance Committee was read. From Municipal Council, re sub- . scription. * . Resolved, That the Secretary be asked if some way cannot bo arranged to obviate the necessity to pay subscription. ; The Mayor reported that they had published the bye-laws as a supplement to the Feiumhg Stab. The Mayor drew attention to water holes in Kimbolton . road opposite his > property. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That the report of the Public Works and Finance Com- ; mittee be adopted, with the exception of metalling in Sherwill street, which work be held over till end of next summer. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Morey, seconded Cr Gould, That the request of Mr J. B. Hamilton, for erecting verandah and making footpath in Manchester street, be complied with.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Morey, That Mr Prior's account of £5 Is for law expenses be paid. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Morey, That a license be granted to Mr Joseph Clementson to keep a Registry Office for servants,— Carried. Proposed by Cr Chamberlain, seconded by Cr Gould, That Mr J. Greenwood be given permission to put a line of drain pipes across Hobson street, to. drain surface water from his section. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Morey, That the name of Charles Wickham be placed on the burgess roll as requested in his letter of application in place of W. T. Bowater. Proposed by Cr Lethbridjje, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That this Council cannot drain the land us requested by the Ajrent of the Land and Loan Corporation. — Carried. The Mayor reported a case of skin disease in Feilding, and stated that the girl was cared for by Mr Joseph Smith, at whose place she was staying. The Mayor stated that Mr Smith had offered to keep the girl if the Council paid the medical fees. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge. seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That Mr Smith's offer to keep Edith Spoooer be accepted, with thanks, and that the Council pay Dr Charlton's account if medicine is required.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the Town Clerk be instructed to sue for all outstanding rates unpaid on the 2nd day of November next. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the application of F. Flavell for the position of Inspector of Nuisances be accepted, at L 25 per annum ; one month's notice on either side to determine the engagementCarried. Proposed by Cr Morey, seconded by Cr Gould, That the tender of J. O'Connor be accepted for the construction of South street bridge at the price of L 194. — Carried. llesolved, That the notice of motion given by Cr Lethbridge at last meeting re nightsoil be allowed to stand over till next meeting. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That tenders be called for the formation of Eyre street from Denbigh street to railway line, tenders to be in by the next meeting ot the Council.— Carried. The Council then adjourned.
