Measles and Education
[Per Press Association] Wkllington, October 3, Mr T. McKeazie this afternoon organised a deputation to the Minister for Education in reference to the allocation of the Education vote this jear in view of tbe reduction in attendance by the measles epidemic. The deputation eon* sis ted of the Hon. Mr McGregor, Messrs T. McKenzie, Wilson, Buchanan, and others. Mr McGregor pointed out that the measles epidemic had very seriously effected the attendances, and though it was proposed to pay on the working, instead of on the strict average, this would not be sufficient in Otago. The difference between the strict and working averages would be some L 250, but the expenses consequent on the epidemic would amount to about LIOOO, and no doubt the other Boards were in the same position. The Minister I proposed to continue paying on the working average ho far as the vote would allow, so that the teachers and Boards would practically not be made to suffer by tbe epidemic.
