A RAINY WINTER.
TO THE EDITOR OF TIIK STAR. Sik, — The rniny weather which pre» railed during the months of June, July, and August last, amounting to 144 2 in. as I reported to you on the Ist ultimo, continued unabated duricu the past month of September, the total rainfall during that month boin<; 409 inches, making the total rainfall for the four . months 11M1 inches, or 620 inches more than the uverage minfall (which was 13*21 inches,) for the same four months in the teu years 1883 to 18i)2. Rain fell on 20 days during the past month, the heaviest falls on any one day (of 24 hours) being 1"14 inches registered on Saturday morning, the IGIII, and 102 in. on Tuesday, the 12th. The weather during the month has brcti remarkably mild, the mean tempcrnturo taken at 9.30 am being 5356 degree.*, and there was no frost whatever with the exception of 2 degrees during the nights of the 29th and 30th.
