PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
Legislative Council. (per press association). Wellington, September 29. The Council met at 2.30. Tbe Electoral Law Amendment Bill was committed. Clause 3 — Shearers may vote on elector's rights. — Sir George Whitmore moved to include all absent voters in tbe Clause, wbich was lost by 22 to 10, and tbe Clause after slight amendment, was added to the Bill. Tbe remainder of tbe Bill passed without amendment. The Hon. Mr Shrimski moved a new Clause providing tbat women shall not vote at Parliamentary elections until after January Ist. 1894. — Lost by 27 to 3. Mr Bowen moved a new clause, wbich was in last year's Bill, giving women extra facilities to exercise the franchise through tbe Post Oflice. This was carried by 16 to 13 and tbe Bill was put through its final stages. Tbe Council then adjourned till Monday.
