Campbelltown Notes

[fbom our own correspondent.] A start has been Aade towards the enlargement of Mr Darragh's store, which is to be mado twice its original size. The increasing trade will require a much larger stock than Mr Darragh has at present. We ate well set up for stores here, there being four at present, and all doing a good trade. Messrs Mud ford Bros are progressing faTorably> under the circumstances, with the driving of the artesian well at the factory. At the depth of 40 feet from the surface a seam of shingle has been met which proves to be about 30 feet through, and consequently some very tiring work has been endured, but it is hoped that the driving will prove a success. The percentages of lambs have been surprising here to the farmers who have all long ezpeoted a low rate considering the wet season we have had ; five and six over the hundred per cent are quite common. Messrs Thompson and Thompson, have recently opened a sale of goods consisting of clothing and boots in the Temperance Hall. Mr Bo water, of Fezlding, is supervisor for the firm. As a specimen of dairy cows, one farmer last week made from five cows fifty two poundi of butter, besides consuming milk for his own use. This is considered to be very good and gives an idea of the quality of grass in Campbelltown. Mr Walter Richmond is having a very severe illness from inflammation of the bowels. Dr. Rockstrow has been attending him, and it is to be hoped that he will have a speedy recovery, as he is much respected by the community.
