INTERCOLONIAL CYCLING. EXTENSIVE ROBBERIES OF GOLD. ANOTHER BANK ROBBERY. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, September 23. At the cycling sports the Two Mile Bicycle Teams race wns won by Now Zealand, New South Wales 2nd, and Queensland 3rd. New Zealand scored 12 points, and the other placed colonies 6 points each, the points being awarded on the relative positions of the men at the finish. In the race Korr, of Sydney, was first by five yards, with Hayward, of Now Zealand, 2nd ; and Wilmot, «f New Zoalaud, 3rd. Time omin 43 l-sth sees. Wilmot won the mile scratch race by 10 yards from Hayward. Time, 2min 41 3-oth sees. Six started. Sailed — Wakatipu, for Wellington, Among her passengers are the New Zealand cyclists, and Mr Stead's horses, Ich Dien, Melinite, and Stepniak, were shipped in the steamer. The Joint Stock Bank at Wickham, near Newcastle, was entered last night. The clerk, Charles Hurt, while visiting the bank at 10 o'clock, was bound and gagged, but the robbers failed to secure any money and escaped. Bbisbine, This Day. Seven Mount Morgan and two Rockbampton miners have been arrested on suspicion of extensive robbories of gold at the Mount Morgan mine. Robberies have extended over a number of years. The arrests were effected by a large body of police and detectives. v Some sensation has been caused, and other arrests are expected. The supposed leader of the gang, who was managing the affair, was arrested while disposing of some of the stolen amalgam to a Rockhampton storekeeper. Detectives have been engaged in the mine as workmen for months past, preparing for a coup. 1 Melbourne, This Day. Arrived — Star of England from London. The Premier, in the course of a speech at Frankston, said that, in a short time, the House would go into reces3 and then the Government would effect a surprising transformation. Ho believed the colony was on the eve of another boom.
