A medical man is strongly of opinion that an artesian water in Fi-iKling would effectually banish diphtheria and kindred discuses. We belieye that cleanliness in the back yard and the use of filtered tank water would do it. A proposal to borrow £2000 for the purpose of building municipal offices at Marton was thrown out by the burgesses on Wodnesduy last. The adjourned meeting, respecting the formation of a branch of the " Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals," in Feilding, will be held this evening at the Foresters' Hall. The Wesleyan community there have combined to so 100 acres of land with oats in order to reduce the debt on the parsonage property, and the farmers have responded liberally to the object, as many as 13 ploughs being at work on tho ground at the one time. Some men were drinking at the Tiverton Inn, South Molton, England, recently, when one of them, a mason's labourer, made a wager that h«j would drink half a gallon of beer in ten minutes. He succeeded in drinking it in seven minutes, when hi was taken seriously ill, and on being assisted to Jiis house died on the way. We are informed by a member of the school committee that the water tanks, and well, at tho school require immediate attention. Both tho tanks and well want cleaning out, otherwise the water will be unfit for use — if it is not so already. Some surprise has also been expressed at the annual examination being postponed until April next. An interesting magic lantern entertainment for the amusement of the young ones was given in the Army Barracks last night. Fully 100 children were present, besides a good sprinkling of adults. Adjutant Hoaro described the various views exhibited, and at the after meeting which followed, alluded to the great benefit the Junior Army proved, as 40 per cent of officers now serving in the senior ranks were promoted from the junior contingent.
