Women's Franchise
The Postmaster informs us that he will receive forms for the enrolment of women by this afternoon's train. THE LADIES ENROLLING THEIR NAMES. TARANAKI LADIES BASHFUL. SYDNEY DAILY TELEGRAPH ON THE QUESTION. (PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.} Auckland, September 20. Women were at the office of the Registrar of Electors at 8.30 this morning, half an hour before opening, to enrol. All day women were enrolling freely. The Women's Franchise League were assisting operations throughout the city. A meeting of the Knights of Labour , passed the following resolution : — " The pioneer assembly of the order in New Zealand congratulate the women of the Colony on being admitted to the franchise, a right the order has always advocated ; it being one of the planks of their platform." Dunkdin, September 20. The Women's Franchise League held a thanksgiving meeting to-day, when a resolution congratulating the League on obtaining women's franchise was passed, and the hope was expressed that the same privilege will soon bo granted in other parts of tho Empire. New Plymouth, This Day. Only three women hare placed their names on the electoral roll here up to the present time. IxvERCAKoiLL, This Day. The temperance party are busy enrolling women. \ Sydney, This Day. The Daily Telegraph, commenting on the granting of female franchise, states New Zealand is entering on a political object lesson which, no matter what the issue may be, must bo to uiako the world wider in state craft than before. New Zealand is peopled by a race who, socially, intelligently, and politically, have perhaps as little to learn from outside as any people in the world. It adds, " What do women of New Zealand want the franchise j for? ia a great question. Upon their answer the immediate destiny of New Zealand depends. "
