The Midland Railway
(PEII PKESS ASSOCIATION.] 3beymouth, September 19 At a meeting of citizens to-night wthc Midland Railway the following resolution was carried unanimously : — ' That this meeting fully recognises the benefit to accrue to Westland, Canterbury, and the colony in general, by the completion of the Jiast nnd West Const HaiN way, and, recognising that the stoppage of the railway at this juncture would be a national calamity, earnestly urges the Government to accept the recommendation of the Public Accounts Coiiiinittee, thereby enabling settlement to progress by the unlocking of the lands on the East and West Coasts, and the providing of labour for hundreds of the unemployed, besides completing a great work.'
